Who wants to run in Sherwood?

Sherwood is hosting the Oregon's Run for the Roses races in June.  Not to be confused with the other Race for the Roses in April.  Registration for the  races in Sherwood open on January 1st, and, well, I will copy the text from their Facebook status:  Registration for Run for the Roses 1/2 Marathon, 10k and 5k begins on January 1, 2011. We are offering every fan of this page a $5 discount for registration into this years event if we can get up to 500 fans of this page by the end of day on January 2, 2011. Click the "suggest to friends" link on the left hand side and invite your friends to this page so that you and your friends will get the $5 discount

With the prices starting at $25 for the 5K, $35 for the 10K and $45 for the first ever Pikermi at the event, it is an economical race.  Prices include the t-shirt, so heck that is an even bigger bargain.  Plus, it is in my home town, and I get to walk to the start line!  If there are enough people that want to come and play, I may convince all the girls in my neighborhood to put together a cheering section for all of us, and these girls all get crafty and make banners and the like for little things, so this would be an EXTRA fun project for them.  It is six months away, and was a lot of fun last year, and should be again this year.  I am still waiting for the map to be posted for the Pikermi, so I can do a few practice runs, but there is plenty of time for that.

As for my runs either today or yesterday...not so much.  I need to get to bed before midnight if I expect to be able to get up at 4:00 and go for runs.

  1. I am definitely considering it! One of my top choices for the year. The idea of cheering makes it even more appealing!

  3. I am tempted!
We'll see if I feel sufficiently recovered from the full to do it..I might put it down and wait to register, but it looks great!

  5. I think it is so hard to get to bed at a decent hour with "all these kids." lol

I don't know how you do it... and get up so early. I would die. I find myself going running right after all the kids are in bed... or at least the youngest two. It's dark but we have The Gate so I feel pretty safe.

And there is not much that is nearly so nice as being able to walk to a race!

  6. @jgf, I would be honored if you came to my little town to run again. Maybe do the 10K or the Pikermi so you don't have to do a "dreaded 5K". I never understood your need to warm up so much before the race until this year's Jingle Bell run. Now I get it. 3 miles just isn't enough to get going.

@ERG, The ClamChowderCrawl is on April 18th a full 7 weeks before the Run for the Roses, surely you could squeeze in a little 5K recovery run and visit your family up here? No pressure though, really...

@Danny, not sure what it is worth, but hey, that is one "like" closer to the 500 they want to get to, so thanks.

@XLMarge, and (trying) not sure where you both hail from, so I'm not sure if it is feasible for you to come and play, but it would be a fun morning.

I'm sure I'll prattle on about this race later on in the year. There is this one and the Friar Trot in mid-May in Sherwood, and the CATNip 5K as well. All three are very family friendly.

  7. Wish I could be there, but Oregon's a bit too far away.

  8. Just wanted to introduce myself! I read your tag Nattybumpo on ERG's blog comments the other day, and found myself chanting nattybumpo, nattybumpo, over and over as I strolled around town. SO with a tag THAT catchy, I HAD to join your followers. Please don't make me drink the red Kool-Aid now.

Is this weird, yes? But weird is my normal ;)

  9. @keeley, You make me laugh EVERY time I read your posts or comments.

@Cruiser--Welcome! That is too funny that you would walk around chanting my nickname. I will have to get caught up on your travels...
